Barcelona and Atletico Madrid ‘pact for players’

Barcelona have reportedly paid Atletico Madrid €15m for first option on signing Saul Niguez, Jose Maria Gimenez and three other academy players.

A report in El Mundo claims the deal is a confidential one that will be denied by both clubs and was agreed to smooth relations between the clubs following the deal for Antoine Griezmann.

It follows on from the media outlet’s report on the deal that took Griezmann to the Blaugrana this summer initially being agreed in March, before the release clause dropped to €120m from €200m.

The outlets claims it has access to an email chain between Atleti president Enrique Cerezo, Griezmann, his sister and agent (named Maud) his lawyers and advisors and his father, Alain – which outlines €14m worth of commission to be sorted between the parties.

Barcelona were fined a miserly €300 for conducting transfer business outside of the transfer windows, with previous reports suggesting it could develop into a court case.
