Catalan chaos may force Barcelona trip to Eibar by bus

Barcelona must travel by bus rather than airplane to their weekend trip to Eibar due to the current unrest in Catalonia, report Diario AS.

The Blaugrana would normally travel to the Basque country by flying into the city of Bilbao and then travelling the remaining 40km to Eibar by a coach.

However, a general strike is said to be in place for the region of Catalonia which would particularly impact El Prat airport in the city of Barcelona, meaning that the club must alter their travel plans.

The change of plans means that the road trip for the Barca players will total 550km, of which 400km will be on the motorway system that connects the eastern region of Catalonia to the Basque Country in the north of Spain.

The last time the Blaugrana had to make a similar change of plans was for the 2010 Champions League semi-finals, when volcanic ash disrupted air travel across Europe and forced them to travel to Milan by bus – a game they lost 3-1.
