Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois earns 200th clean sheet

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois clocked up his 200th clean sheet in professional football as Belgium defeated Kazakhstan 2-0.

As outlined by Marca, the 27-year-old has reached the milestone with clean sheets achieved at Genk, Atlético Madrid, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Belgium.

Sunday night’s victory over Kazakhstan was the seventh consecutive clean sheet for his national side for Courtois – he has 40 in total in his 79 international appearances for the Red Devils.

Courtois kept 14 clean sheets in 45 matches for Belgian club Genk, then kept a shutout 76 times in 154 appearances for Atletico before returning to Chelsea, where his number of clean sheets was 58 in 154 games – and so far he has reached 12 in 43 Madrid appearances.

Alphonso Areola, a summer loan signing from Paris Saint-Germain, had temporarily replaced Courtois in the starting line-up after the Belgian had suffered from a bout of acute gastroenteritis.
