Didier Deschamps opposed to Karim Benzema French return

France manager Didier Deschamps has confirmed he has no intention of recalling Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema to the national team.

Benzema has not played for Le Bleus since 2015, after Deschamps opted to remove him from French duty following a controversy involving team mate Mathieu Valbuena.

However despite remaining as a key player for Real Madrid, Deschamps told an interview with French TV station TF1, that the situation would not change.

"The decision on Benzema was a sporting one, taken at the time.

"I do not think that a return would be in the best interests of the French team.

"I make my decisions based on what I think is best for the team, and what it means to play for France.

"That is always important when you play for the national team."

Following his omission in 2015, Benzema accused Deschamps, in 2018, of giving into racist sections within French society that were opposed to his inclusion due to his Algerian heritage.

Deschamps has since denied this, claiming that his decision is based on football and nothing else.

France are currently second in their Euro 2020 qualifying group, and a win over group leaders Turkey will secure their progress, as bid for a World and European double.
