Sergio Reguilon ‘very happy’ with Sevilla loan move

Sergio Reguilon has spoken of his happiness with his decision to join Sevilla on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid.

Reguilon started 21 games for the outgoing European champions last season including four in the Champions League but had fallen out of favour under the returning Zinedine Zidane who preferred Marcelo in the position.

His situation in the Spanish capital was compounded further by the €55m summer arrival of Ferland Mendy from Lyon, hastening Reguilon’s loan exit.

“I'm very happy with everything that has happened,” Reguilon told a press conference while on international duty with Spain, as cited by Marca.

“I am in a great moment and it has been a very strange year for me, going from never being involved in a professional match to representing my national team.

“My relationship with Zinedine Zidane? I do not think about that, only about myself and my own career – you never know when you are going to play a part for a team.

“I have joined Sevilla to gain experience and play more minutes, I am happy with how it is going.”

Reguilon has started seven of Sevilla’s eight La Liga games to date and has been rested for the early games in the Europa League group stage.

The 22-year-old is now part of the Spanish national squad following his first ever call-up this month by boss Roberto Moreno.
