Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen insists he is not fighting with Germany international teammate Manuel Neuer.
There has been a media furore over the situation after Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness threatened to boycott his players from the national team should Neuer lose his slot to the Barcelona goalkeeper.
The issue has grown into a problem for Germany with both goalkeepers widely regarded as being world class but Neuer being the long-term first choice at national level.
Both goalkeepers are said to believe they are entitled to be the first choice selection for Die Mannschaft, although boss Joachim Low is not said to be willing to change his mind.
“I am not fighting with Manuel,” Ter Stegen said, in quotes cited by El Mundo Deportivo.
“Neuer knows that when I made those statements they (the media) went for me, not for him. We have a good relationship, very professional, we talk a lot but this issue has not been a subject of discussion among us.
“It is a good relationship and without any confrontation. There is no fight between us or anything that has led us to discuss it with each other.”
Ter Stegen, 27, has demonstrated he is one of football’s elite goalkeepers with a series of world-class performances for the Blaugrana, whom he joined from Borussia Mochengladbach in 2014 for €12m.
The goalkeeper played his 200th match for the club against Sevilla this weekend and is said to be very happy at the club, for whom his importance is behind only that of Lionel Messi.
