Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea could buy Elche

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea could become the new owner of Spanish Segunda division club Elche, say reports in Spain.

The Spain international goalkeeper could invest €18m to buy the club, according to a report in Superdeporte, who outlined the fact that De Gea’s father is a native of the city.

Indeed, De Gea himself is a fan of the club and even said, upon the club’s demotion to the third tier in 2017: “Wherever they are, the fans of Elche will not let you down.”

In addition, the shot-stopper – who previously played for Atletico Madrid – has also been seen in the presidential box of the stadium on multiple occasions.

Christian Bragarnik is another potential buyer of the club but the fresh reports now claim that De Gea is now a viable option to take control of Elche.

The sale is said to be in the pipeline to be processed in the coming months and the goalkeeper could follow in the footsteps of former international teammate Gerard Pique, who bought FC Andorra.

De Gea has recently penned a new contract at United until the summer of 2023.
