Victor Valdes leaves Barcelona coaching role after three months

Victor Valdes has left his role as Coach of the Barcelona Juvenil team after just three months, the club have confirmed via a statement.

On Friday, Diario AS cited a report from Catalunya Radio which claimed the former Blaugrana goalkeeper had a high-profile fallout with Barcelona official Patrick Kluivert, and has already been replaced by youth coach Franc Artiga.

Kluivert was appointed as Barcelona’s new director of youth football this summer in an off-field shakeup at the club, and holds a great deal of power in the direction of the club’s youth teams.

Kluivert netted 145 goals across 308 games for the Blaugrana between 1998 and 2004, and since his retirement from playing he has held a number of off-field roles in football.

As a La Masia youth team graduate himself, Valdes won six La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues in a 12-year career at the Camp Nou between 2002 and 2014.

After leaving Spain he played for Manchester United, Standard Liege and Middlesbrough, with the Barcelona website confirming his return in July.
