Gerard Pique avoids El Clasico suspension

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has avoided a potential El Clasico suspension after collecting a late yellow card against Sevilla.

La Blaugrana's 4-0 win over Julen Lopetegui's side ended in controversy as Ronald Araujo and Ousmane Dembele were boh sent off in the final five minutes.

However in an incident that was only picked up on after the full time whistle, the veteran centre back was cautioned for kicking the ball away in frustration in added time.

That is is fifth league booking of the La Liga season, meaning he will miss the first game back after the international break – away at Eibar – but be back for Real Madrid's visit to the Camp Nou.

Clement Lenglet missed the weekend win through a one game ban, and he is likely to replace Pique against Jose Luis Mendilibar's side.

Araujo will be banned for three games, but Barcelona will appeal against Dembele's sending off, after he allegedly criticised referee Antonio Lahoz.
