Real Madrid closer to Ajax’s Donny van de Beek

Real Madrid are closer to signing Ajax midfielder but have been quoted an inflated fee of €100m, according to reports.

Van de Beek, 22, is a Dutch international who netted 17 goals last season, including the only goal in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Tottenham.

It was said in the summer that the Dutch champions value the midfielder at €65m but Madrid did not want to pay in excess of €50m to secure his signature.

Now the Daily Mirror claim that Manchester United failed in a €40m approach this summer but now the player’s value has rocketed and he is closer to Madrid.

Another report in Marca last week cited the player’s quotes to Dutch outlet Voetbal saying he will not transferring clubs in January, but did not rule out a summer move.

Van de Beek’s former Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong joined Barcelona this summer in a €86m switch, while defender Matthijs de Ligt joined Juventus.

The central midfielder has spent the entirety of his professional career at the Amsterdam-based giants and has won international recognition for the Netherlands.

Madrid spent over €300m in transfer fees this summer with Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy, Rodrygo Goes and Eder Militao among the arrivals.
