Former Barcleona star Malcom speaks out on injury hell at Zenit St Petersburg

Brazilian forward Malcom has broken his silence of an injury disrupted start to life at Zenit St Petersburg.

Malcom, 22, left Barcelona for the Russian this summer in a €40M move, after just 12 months at the Camp Nou.

The former Corinthians man joined Ernesto Valverde’s side at the start of the 2018-19 season, after impressing in three seasons at Ligue 1 side Bordeaux, but he made just 15 La Liga appearances before opting to move to Russia.

The summer signings of Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie De Jong pushed him further down the pecking order at the Catalan side, and he opted to move on.

However a hip injury has restricted him to just over a hour of action for Sergei Semak’s side.

“I have a very sensitive and delicate injury, he told an interview with the club’s official website.

“It hurts one day, then it is better, but if I have to use more strength to shoot, it gets painful.

“Zenit fans should not worry about my injury, as I am recovering quickly.

“I want to get back in the team and play well for this club.

“I want to play in the Champions League for Zenit.”

Malcom made three appearances for Barcelona in his debut Champions League campaign last season, scoring an important equaliser against Inter Milan in the group stages.

Semak’s side are currently second in the Russian Premier League, and top of Group G in the Champions League – ahead of Lyon, RB Leipzig and Benfica.
