Zinedine Zidane issues squad warning

Zinedine Zidane has warned his Real Madrid squad that no one is safe from being dropped this season.

The Frenchman was speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of their clash with Granada, following criticism of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

“I am not concerned about him.

“He knows that criticism is part of football, but he is strong enough to cope with it.”

The Belgian international was withdrawn at half time during their 2-2 draw with Club Brugge, with the club confirming he would miss the next two weeks of action due to gastroenteritis.

“Everyone played a role in a poor first half against Brugge.

“There will always be a debate over his plays at this club, including in goal.

“We have a squad of 25 players and I will be counting on them all this season.

“No player is guaranteed a place in the team.

“We will need the whole squad for a long season.”

Zidane is set to be without six first team players for the visit of Diego Martinez’s side, with Marcelo, Ferland Mendy, Nacho Fernandez, Vinicius Junior and Lucas Vazquez joining Courtois on the side lines.
