Javier Hernandez enjoying Sevilla ‘like a kid’

Striker Javier Hernandez is enjoying his football ‘like a little kid’ after joining Sevilla from West Ham United this summer.

The Mexican international has scored two goals in his two starts for the club – both in Europa League ties against Qarabag and APOEL respectively.

The deal taking the striker to the Andalusian club was worth a reported €7.8m and while he has yet to start a match in La Liga – featuring for just 41 minutes across two substitute appearances – he has said he is enjoying life in Spain.

“Many people thought that me coming to Seville was kind of smoke and mirrors,” Hernandez told reporters after the victory over APOEL on Thursday.

“However, I know what it means to play for this team and also to play in La Liga, I am fine and I am happy.

“Many people in my country said that I was almost finished but I know there is still a lot to come, so now I am enjoying it like a little kid.

“I do not care whether or not I score goals or provide assists, or have good individual performances, the important thing is that Sevilla are going forward and the team are meeting their goals.

“We need to keep going as in football you must turn the page quickly, so from tomorrow (Friday) we will start preparing ourselves to play Barcelona.”

Hernandez – known as Chicharito – has thrived in European football across the past nine years, most memorably at Manchester United before also enjoying spells at Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham.

The 31-year-old was one of a host of summer arrivals at Sevilla including other strikers such as Luuk de Jong and Moanes Dabbur.
