Griezmann: Me and Messi do not speak much

Antoine Griezmann admits it is ‘difficult’ for him and Lionel Messi to become close as neither of them speak a lot.

The Frenchman was a summer arrival at Barcelona – who triggered his €120m release clause at Atletico Madrid – and despite scoring three goals for his new club, has not fully settled into the rhythm of his new side.

Messi has been injured for most of the season – and has not completed a full match yet this season, starting just one game so far.

“It has been difficult to get to know each other,” Griezmann admitted in his pre-match press conference, ahead of facing Inter, as cited by Marca.

“Neither of us are individuals who like to talk a lot, and he has spent a lot of time injured – so we have not been able to work together a lot on the training pitch.

“But I have already given him some (of the South American drink) mate and we are sure to get along well.”

Griezmann’s form has been questioned in his early Barcelona appearances: “I have a lot of room to improve, especially with my movements and runs, but I need to be given time.

“I am now at a club with a different playing style and philosophy, I am not in the same position as I was (at Atletico), so I need to continue learning and improving.

“But I am on the right path and I feel comfortable here, it has only been two months and this was always going to take more time than that.”
