Keylor Navas is not a great goalkeeper – Bernard Lama

Former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Bernard Lama has expressed his doubts on the quality of Keylor Navas.

The Costa Rican joined the French champions from Real Madrid this summer after helping Los Blancos to lift three Champions League titles.

“For me, Keylor Navas is not a great goalkeeper,” Lama is cited as saying by Diario AS.

“I've always said he is a good goalkeeper but I don't consider him to be one of the best . The good thing for the PSG is that the goal situation has been solved, since in recent years we did not know who the starting goalkeeper would be.”

The 32-year-old had started just 11 La Liga matches last campaign although seven of them arrived since Zinedine Zidane returned in March, bringing hope that he could have more opportunities this season.

However, Madrid sanctioned his sale following the prominence of Thibaut Courtois and replaced him with a season-long loan deal for Alphonso Areola from PSG.

Navas joined Madrid from Levante in the summer of 2014 and won three successive Champions League titles with the club between 2016 and 2018.

His move to Paris was sanctioned for a deal in the region of €15m with Navas penning a three-year deal worth a reported €6m annually.
