Barcelona linked with move for Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof

Barcelona have once again been linked with a move for Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof.

Ernesto Valverde hinted in the summer that he was in the market for a central defender, heightening speculation that he would make a bid for the Swedish international.

According to reports in Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Lindelof's agent Hasan Cetinkaya confirmed the defending La Liga champions did approach United.

"After Matthijs De Ligt joined Juventus, Victor was Barcelona's next option.

"They contacted Ed Woodward and tried to negotiate a deal for him, but were told Lindelof is not for sale.

"United did not want to lose one of their best players.

However Cetinkaya did indicate that another bid could persuade United to make a move, describing Lindelof as having Barcelona 'DNA'.

"He has a contract with United until 2024, but they know there is interest in him.

"At the moment that interest is from sides that are better than United.

"We will see what the future holds, but Lindelof would be a good player for Barcelona."

Valverde is likely to look to boost his defensive options this summer, with injury doubts remaining over Samuel Umtiti, and mixed reviews on the suitability of Clement Lenglet as a partner for Gerard Pique.
