Diego Simeone: Real Madrid have improved a lot

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone believes Real Madrid ‘have improved a lot’ as he prepares his side for Saturday’s Madrid derby.

Los Blancos have had an impressive week following wins to nil against both Sevilla and Osasuna to propel them to the top of La Liga.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are now unbeaten through their opening six matches in the league and sit one point ahead of Los Rojiblancos going into Saturday’s clash at the Wanda Metropolitano.

“These types of matches are close, they are defined by details that balance the game to one side or the other,” Simeone explained in his pre-match press conference, as cited by Marca.

“Real Madrid have improved a lot in Seville and against Osasuna they maintained that level even if they made changes. I imagine it will continue in that line for this game.

“I think that Real Madrid have very good players and if they take advantage of the spaces, then they are a complicated opponent.

“Bale is improving, Benzema is at an ideal time and Hazard has great potential to cause damage.

“Will that 3-7 (from pre-season) be repeated? We always learn from everything, when you win and when you lose, you have to keep trying not to change because that way you are closer to winning.

“Madrid have a very strong backbone and maintain the potential to be a very good team, the likes of Casemiro and Benzema are very good players.

“Madrid have improved a lot, they have great players and a great Coach, we will have to perform very well to make the game difficult for them.”
