Pre-season damaged Barcelona – Gerard Pique

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes the club’s pre-season has not helped the club in their start to the campaign.

The Blaugrana have picked up just one point from their opening three La Liga away matches following on from a pre-season which saw them play in both Japan and the United States.

“When things are not going well, we are the footballers, just like when they are doing well,” Pique told reporters, as cited by El Mundo Deportivo.

“We have not been able to train a lot, we have had many trips and it shows, there are players who still do not have the form, others who have discomfort, the pre-season we had has not helped us but it is Barça and there are no excuses.

“I've been here for 11 seasons and we've won eight (La Liga titles) and two others competed until the end and I smell that this year will be the same.

“Messi's injury is a setback and we hope he is away from the first-team for as short a time as possible.

“It is not easy sometimes to change things, but we talk about it and today it has been demonstrated by pressing up and scoring two goals quickly.

“Now we have to do it in Getafe, which would help us get back up to where we want to be. We have to win away from home.

“Fans whistles to Suarez? I understand that the fans have their opinion and express it, but I would not give it more importance, the players are also people and we would like to win every game by four or five goals, but it’s not always possible.”
