FC Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has eased fears that club captain Lionel Messi has suffered a serious injury.
Messi started against Villarreal CF, in his first start of the 2019-20 season, after struggling with a calf problem during pre-season.
The Argentina international came off at half time against Javi Calleja's side, with a hamstring injury, however Valverde has confirmed his substitution was a precaution.
"Of course when Messi gets injured, everyone takes notice.
"However it does not look like a serious injury.
"He has suffered an adductor strain, but he was only taken off as a precaution."
Valverde also confirmed that Messi will be fully assessed by the club's medical staff, but he is expected to be fit for their La Liga clash away at Getafe.
