Six La Liga stars in FIFA’s The Best XI

Six La Liga stars have been named in FIFA’s The Best team of 2019 – four from Real Madrid and two from Barcelona.

Two of the stars – Eden Hazard and Frenkie de Jong – were summer imports into La Liga from Chelsea and Ajax respectively.

Perhaps somewhat controversially, a trio of Madrid players – Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and Luka Modric – were also named in the XI, despite none having vintage seasons either on a personal level or for their club, with the XI outlined by Marca.

Barcelona attacking star Lionel Messi was also named in the line-up alongside Liverpool duo Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk, along with Juventus duo Matthijs de Ligt and Cristiano Ronaldo, with Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe also named.

Several La Liga stars may count themselves somewhat unfortunate not to be included in the XI – notable Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and defender Gerard Pique, who both enjoyed fine personal seasons.
