Vinicius is Real Madrid’s future – Zidane

Zinedine Zidane insists Vinicius Junior is the future of Real Madrid and dismissed claims he does not consider him as a starter.

The 19-year-old had enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in the Spanish capital, with four goals in 19 starts in all competitions in 2018-19.

He joined Los Blancos in a €45m deal from Brazilian club Flamengo in the summer of 2018 but has to battle for a place among a series of new arrivals this year.

Eden Hazard has arrived from Chelsea in a deal worth €100m while Luka Jovic has been another high-profile attacking arrival.

“I have 23 players and I have to count on everyone,” Zidane explained in a press conference, as cited by Marca.

“Vinícius is 18 years old and is the future of Madrid, surely. But each player takes time and he is in the process of doing things well.

“Sometimes he will not play, of course, because he will play in others and will be in the starting eleven. Stop saying that I do not count on Vinícius. I do count on him.”
