Dominant Spain prevail ensuring a sixth win on the bounce

Spain made it six wins from six qualification matches with a comfortable victory (4-0) against The Faroe Islands tonight.

In a game controlled from start to finish, two goals from Valencia striker Rodrigo and two further goals by Borussia Dortmund’s forward Paco Alcácer were enough to secure La Roja a relatively comfortable victory in Gijón.

It was a special night for Sergio Ramos, who equalled Iker Casillas’ international record for La Roja of 167 caps.

Spain dominated for the majority of the exchanges – creating 17 shot to their opponents two with a stylish performance.

La Roja showed plenty of attacking prowess and dominance with the ball in the first half without really penetrating the opposition’s back line so frequently.

Apart from the opening goal, Spain’s next best opportunity to score came from a corner where Thiago was picked out on the edge of the area and the midfielder hit a crisp strike on the volley which was smartly saved by Nielsen.

The script of the match continued in the second half as Spain continued their dominance and turned the screw, notably upping their game.

The hosts created chance after chance as La Roja laid siege to The Faroe Island’s goal. Thiago, Rodri and Paco Alcácer all had efforts on goal – with the Dortmund front man coming off the bench to score a brace to add more gloss to the Spanish score line.

A special moment arrived for two defenders in the 83th when Athletic Bilbao’s defender Unai Núñez made his debut for the nation team. He substituted Captain Sergio Ramos, who took in the applause from the public of El Molinón to celebrate his milestone appearance.

The Faroe’s did have one clear cut chance in the second half after a mistake by Sergio Ramos but De Gea made a solid save to keep the opposition at bay.

This latest triumph has enabled Spain to secure all 18 points so far in their Group F Euro 2020 group campaign.

A happy home debut for coach Robert Moreno and his team are back in action next month on October 12th when La Roja take on Norway in Oslo.
