Jose Mourinho lined up as Zinedine Zidane’s replacement at Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho has been linked with a shock return to Real Madrid, should they dismiss Zindine Zidane as manager.

Zidane returned to the club in March, after leaving in June 2018 after winning three Champions Leagues and one La Liga title between 2016 and 2018.

However he has not enjoyed an impressive second spell in charge, with Los Blancos ending the 2018-19 season poorly, and kicking off 2019-20 with a win and a draw.

Club president Florentino Perez has backed the Frenchman with over €300M in transfer funds this summer, however Zidane will be under pressure to win titles following such significant investment in new players.

According to reports in Diario Sport, Perez is keeping the option of Mourinho's return after the Portuguese boss won the La Liga title with the club in 2012.

Mourinho has reportedly rejected offers to manage in the Chinese Super League, as he is awaiting another managerial opening in one of Europe's major leagues.
