James Rodriguez ‘happy’ at Real Madrid – Zidane

Zinedine Zidane has reiterated that James Rodriguez is ‘happy’ to be at Real Madrid as he poured cold water on exit talks.

The Colombian playmaker has been heavily linked with a permanent exit from Los Blancos this summer with both Napoli and Atletico Madrid said to have been the leading candidates for his signature.

However, Zidane now may have had a change of heart on the player with recent reports claiming he is “delighted with the attitude and level” of James in training sessions.

“He is a player who plays football very well,” Zidane responded when asked over the future of James, as cited by Marca.

“We are happy to see him here and we will count on him like the others. Now we want to see him from here on in. He is happy to be in Madrid and there are many games and we will count on everyone.”

James has returned to Madrid following a two-year loan spell at the Bavarian club having started just 13 Bundesliga matches this campaign and is said to want more regular first-team football.

The former Porto and Monaco star spent three seasons at Los Blancos, helping them to two European titles, but started just 13 La Liga games in his final campaign.

Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti brought James from Monaco to the Spanish capital back in 2014 and worked with him again during his time with Bundesliga giants Bayern.
