Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin joins Valladolid

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has joined Real Valladolid on a season-long loan deal, it has been confirmed.

The Ukrainian made just four La Liga appearances for Leganes last campaign, but it had been thought he could be afforded more opportunities next season.

Indeed, it had been thought that the shot-stopper would return to Lega next campaign but Valladolid then moved ahead in negotiations and have now completed his signing.

The two clubs share a strong relationship at boardroom level with Valladolid headed by former Madrid striker Ronaldo Nazario, a close friend of his Los Blanos counterpart Florentino Perez.

Lunin joined Los Blancos last summer in an €8m deal from Zorya but was never likely to be involved in first-team action following the arrival of Thibaut Courtois to compete with Keylor Navas and Luca Zidane.

Navas now looks set to stay at Madrid beyond this summer and despite Zidane’s exit on loan to Racing Santander, Lunin was not likely to be third-choice goalkeeper and will instead seek a move.

Madrid’s youth team goalkeeper Diego Altube is likely to be behind Courtois and Navas in the pecking order next campaign.
