Marcelo confirms he rejected Serie A interest this summer

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has confirmed he was contacted by Italian clubs this summer regarding a potential move.

The Brazilian international was heavily linked with a reunion with former Los Blancos star Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus, after falling out of favour under previous manager Santiago Solari during the 2018-19 season.

However the return of Zinedine Zidane in March saw the 31-year old reinstated as first choice left back, ahead of Sergio Reguilon and he is determined to stay in the Spanish capital.

"I was approached by Italian clubs (about a move)', he told an interview with Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

However they were only rumours.

"The truth is that I love Real Madrid, it is my home and the best club in the world.

"In my head there was never an idea that I would wear a Juventus shirt, I am committed to Real Madrid."

Marcelo will kick off the 2019-20 season as his 14th consecutive season at the Santiago Bernabeu, with his contract running up until 2022.
