Toni Kroos reveals Manchester United agreement in 2014

Toni Kroos has revealed he agreed to join Manchester United before joining Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014.

The German international joined Los Blancos from the German champions but he has opened up on how he had reached a verbal agreement with the Red Devils.

He was convinced to move to Old Trafford by David Moyes, who was subsequently sacked and Louis van Gaal was appointed at the English club instead, with the move not coming to fruition.

“I knew that Manchester loved me and (David) Moyes supported the signing absolutely,” Kroos told GQ, as cited by Marca.

“We had a very pleasant afternoon. We talked a lot about United's football plan and he convinced me and in the end I agreed to do it…verbally.

“I'm not someone who cares about what it could be. Yes, it was close. I was almost a Manchester United player, but it didn't happen.

“One thing I can say with certainty: at Manchester United I would not have won the Champions League three times.”
