Nabil Fekir: Sevilla tried to sign me, but I had Real Betis agreement

New Real Betis playmaker Nabil Fekir admitted city rivals Sevilla attempted to hijack his move to the club from Olympique Lyonnais.

A 2018 World Cup winner with France, Fekir has signed for a reported €20m fee with the Spanish outfit and followed the arrivals of Juanmi, Alfonso Pedraza and Dani Martin at Betis.

Fekir, a left-footed playmaker, was reportedly primed to join Liverpool a year ago for €60m but the move broke down and he remained at the French side.

“It is true that there were conversations with him Sevilla, but I had already given my word to Real Betis and the talks were very advanced,” Fekir is cited as saying by Onda Cero.

In separate quotes to the media, the Frenchman added: “This is a new challenge for me after being with Lyon for eight years.

“It was the right time for me to move and discover a new league, and I am excited about a new season with a new team.

“I felt good in my talks with Betis and I wanted to respect that, and my transfer price is a fee that has been agreed by both presidents – it is not something that I have decided at all.”
