Saudi Arabian takeover of Almeria confirmed

Saudi Arabian businessman Turki Al-Sheikh has successfully completed his takeover of Spanish second tier club Almeria, it has been confirmed.

Previous club owner Alfonso Garcia was ready to sell and the Saudi had travelled to the Andalusian city earlier in the week to complete the deal.

Al-Sheikh is a Saudi investor who has been around the world of football for several years, and the transaction to buy the second tier club is believed to have gone through for €20m.

A former Minister for Sport in Saudi Arabia, Al-Sheikh would become the club’s largest shareholder after talks were successfully concluded this week.

He is believed to want to use the club to bring more Saudi international players into European football, with a long-term view to the 2022 World Cup.

Alfonso Garcia has been at the head of the club for the last 16 years and despite the club spending six seasons in La Liga since 2007, they have struggled in the second tier since their 2015 relegation.
