Vitolo optimistic on Atletico Madrid future

Atletico Madrid winger Vitolo is hopeful of staying at the club and proving his worth next season, he has explained.

The 29-year-old joined Atleti from Sevilla in the summer of 2017 in a protracted transfer but has struggled for form at the club with reports he could be set for a move away this summer.

The Spain international signed a five-year contract at Los Rojiblancos lasting through until the summer of 2022 while his transfer fee at the time was a significant €36m.

“I have not spoken to the boss, nor has the club told me anything but for the moment I am still here,” Vitolo explained, in quotes cited by Marca.

“And the day they tell me that they do not want me to be there, I will have to go somewhere else. But for now, I am still looking forward to demonstrating that I can be here.

“That is what journalists and the Coach have to say. I want to play. I don't give up. I have a lot of football to give to Atlético, who have bet heavily on me being here. I wish I can give it back.

"Surely yes. I have had injuries, when I am afforded minutes, I want to take advantage of them. I have the illusion of having minutes here and feeling important.”
