Manchester United move for Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti

Manchester United have made an approach for Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti should their move for Harry Maguire fall through, say reports.

El Mundo Deportivo verify information from Le10 Sport in France that the Blaugrana defender is on the radar of the Red Devils, and they would be willing to offer €50m for his services.

It comes amidst the news that Eric Bailly faces five months out through injury while United have found no breakthrough in their efforts to sign Leicester and England defender Maguire.

France international Umtiti missed five months of last season with a knee injury but is widely regarded as one of the finest defenders in world football.

The Cameroon-born defender, who joined from Lyon in 2016, had formed a formidable central defensive partnership with Gerard Pique at the Camp Nou.

However, his fitness issues saw Clement Lenglet take his place in the heart of defence and Umtiti was unable to break back into the team when he recovered from his injury, so could potentially make way this summer.
