Neymar rape, assault charges dropped

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has been exonerated of all charges of rape and assault, according to reports.

Sao Paulo police have concluded their investigation into the case and have dropped their charges, report Brazil-based media outlet Globo.

The model Najila de Souza made the accusations against the Brazil international but Juliana Lopes Bussacos, head of the 6th Women's Police Station, concluded on Monday afternoon that the evidence was not sufficient for inditement.

The report adds that “prosecutors of the Special Action Group to Combat Domestic Violence (Gevid) may file a complaint (formal prosecution), request the filing of the inquiry or further action. The prosecutor has 15 days to speak.”

Earlier this month, the delegate requested access to the security camera footage of the hotel in Paris, where the alleged crimes were said to haveoccurred, and the medical record of Najila's private gynecologist.

The Public Prosecutor's Office asked for copies of the extortion inquiries, the alleged theft in Najila's apartment and the disclosure of intimate images of the woman, in Rio de Janeiro.

Neymar joined PSG for a world record €222m fee in the summer of 2017 from Barcelona, to whom he has been linked with a return this year.
