Celta Vigo to sign Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund

Celta Vigo are set to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund playmaker and Japan international Shinji Kagawa, say reports.

A number of outlets are citing German outlet Bild as saying a deal has been done, days after Diario AS outlined Celta’s advanced interest in the player.

The 30-year-old has fallen from prominence in Dortmund’s first-team squad and had participated in just two Bundesliga games so far last campaign, before a January loan switch to Turkish club Besiktas.

Kagawa impressed in Istanbul as he netted four goal and provided two assists in 14 appearances, and had been rumoured to be joining the club permanently before the Galician club came in.

In November, Kagawa told Nikkan Sports, as cited by Diario AS: “I am keen to solve the situation I am in now.

“It is probably important for me to change clubs, to put myself into a different place and to set myself a new challenge.

“I am not afraid of going to a new country and I have already done Germany and England, now I am thinking about Spain.

“Spain would be the most important challenge in my career, I cannot retire without going there.”

Kagawa initially joined the German club from Cerezo Osaka in 2010 before spending two seasons at Manchester United.
