Valencia general manager Mateu Alemany set to quit club

Valencia have been rocked by the news that general manager Mateu Alemany is set to walk out of the club, according to multiple reports.

Marca say that Alemany is due to leave the Mestalla due to irreversible differences with the club’s president Peter Lim, in what will be viewed as a significant blow to Los Che.

Sports Tribune say that an emergency meeting has been scheduled on Monday to discuss the situation with Alemany’s exit the likely outcome.

Alemany has been the individual accredited for Valencia’s rise back to the top of Spanish football in the past two seasons – they have recorded successive top four finishes after back-to-back campaigns in which they ended the season 12th in La Liga.

Lim is said to have interfered in sporting matters and this has led to a professional fallout between the individuals, with Alemany considering his position untenable.

Boss Marcelino Garcia Toral is said to be a close personal friend of Alemany and has himself questioned his own future at the Copa del Rey winners.

Alemany was behind Marcelino’s appointment two summers ago and stuck by the Coach earlier in the season with the club languishing in the bottom half of the standings.
