James Rodriguez set for Real Madrid stay

James Rodriguez looks set to stay at Real Madrid for the 2019-20 season, after transfer talks broke down.

The Colombian international has been widely linked with a exit from the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, with rivals Atletico Madrid and Serie A side Napoli both interested in signing him, after Bayern Munich declined to take up their purchase option following a two-year loan in Germany.

However interest from both clubs has now subsided, with Real Madrid demanding in the region of €40m, despite Rodriguez only having a year left on his contract with Los Blancos.

"James will now stay at Real Madrid, stated Josep Pedrerol, host of football TV show El Chringuito de Jugones.

"The injury to Marco Asensio has changed things at Real Madrid.

"The club have made the decision to keep him."

Asensio has been ruled out until at least March 2020, after suffering a serious knee injury during the club's pre-season tour of the United States.
