Jasper Cillessen has no regrets on FC Barcelona exit

Former FC Barcelona goal keeper Jasper Cillessen is determined to turn his career around after sealing a move to Valencia CF.

The Dutch international confirmed at the end of the 2018-19 season that he wanted to leave the Camp Nou, after growing frustrated at falling behind Marc Ter Stegen as the club's first choice goal keeper.

He moved to Marcelino's side in a €35m transfer, with Brazilian keeper Neto moving in the opposite direction, and the former Ajax player has no regrets about leaving the La Liga champions.

"I do not miss anything about Barcelona, he told Diario AS.

"I was not playing there, and I had no choice but to leave, as I want to play.

"I need to be playing matches, and not just training.

"Ter Stegen is a great goal keeper, and he keeps improving."

The 30-year old also dismissed claims that a move to Valencia CF was a step down in his career.

"Valencia contacted me and I said yes to them straight away.

"For me a move here is a step forward, after three years on the bench at Barcelona, but the coach will decide if I start the season as first choice."
