FC Barcelona pursue left back options

FC Barcelona are in the market for a new left back, according to manager Ernesto Valverde.

The defending La Liga champions have been linked with a new defender, to provide competition and cover for first choice left back Jordi Alba in the 2019-20 season, however they are reported to be exploring a number of options.

"It is true that last season we had some problems in the left back area, Valverde told Mundo Deportivo on the club's pre-season tour of Japan.

"It is possible that a new player could join us in that area, and we are prepared to wait until the last day of the transfer window if we have to."

Valverde is without a senior option to cover for Alba, with Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo alternating at left back last season, with mixed results for the pair who are naturally right backs.

The Catalan side were linked with a free transfer for Atletico Madrid veteran Filipe Luis, however he has opted to return to his native Brazil and join Flamengo on a two year deal.

Real Betis' Junior Firpo is another name linked with a move to the Camp Nou, however the Andalucian side are demanding €50m, with FC Barcelona only willing to pay €35m.
