Villarreal to sign Zambo Anguissa from Fulham

Villarreal are closing in on the signing of André-Frank Zambo Anguissa from Fulham, according to a report in Diario AS.

The 23-year-old stood out at Olympique de Marseille two seasons ago but struggled for form in his one campaign in West London, with the club relegated back to the second tier of English football.

Anguissa, who helped Marseille to the 2018 Europa League final against Atletico Madrid, has won 21 caps for the Cameroon international team and now appears set for a move to the Castellon-based side.

The report adds that “if there are no unexpected setbacks, Villarreal could announce its signing in the next few days.”

The idea of Villarreal is to sign a central midfielder with imposing physical attributes and add a threat from set-piece situations, which they believe Anguissa would bring to their side.

They have had their heart set on a deal ‘for many weeks’ but the slow down in negotiations is because the Lilywhites signed the player for €25m last summer and are evaluating how best to allow his departure.
