Real Madrid confirm knee ligament damage for Marco Asensio

Real Madrid have confirmed forward Marco Asensio has torn his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his knee.

The official diagnosis was confirmed within hours of the player suffering a knee injury in a pre-season friendly against Arsenal, with fears he will now be out for the entirety of the campaign.

The Spain international left the pitch on the stretcher and there are fears that he has suffered knee ligament damage, which could rule him out for the entirety of the campaign.

Reports in Diario AS suggest the former Real Mallorca player could miss between six and nine months with the injury while Marca are more fearful, suggesting a minimum of an eight-month absence.

“We are worried, it is the knee,” Zinedine Zidane explained in his post-match press conference.

“He has gone directly to the hospital to do tests. But it looks bad and this is the worst part of the day for us. We are affected by this.”

Asensio suffered the injury in the 64th minute of the game, going to ground in agony with his hands covering his face and appearing to be in distress.
