Real Betis sign Lyon captain Nabil Fekir

Real Betis have completed the signing of Lyon captain Nabil Fekir on a four-year contract, the club have confirmed.

A 2018 World Cup winner with France, Fekir has signed for a reported €20m fee with the Spanish outfit and he becomes the club's fourth summer arrival – following Juanmi, Alfonso Pedraza and Dani Martin.

The 26-year-old had been in the final year of his contract at the Ligue 1 club and it is within this context that Los Verdiblancos had sought to do a deal.

Fekir, a left-footed playmaker, was reportedly primed to join Liverpool a year ago for €60m but the move broke down and he remained at the French side.

The France international had been the captain and a key player for Lyon but due to his contractual situation and Betis said to be seeking a replacement for Giovani Lo Celso, a deal was done.

The report claims an initial fee of €20m has been agreed for the France international, for a total of 60% of his rights, with the potential of Lo Celso leaving the club this summer in excess of €70m.

Tottenham are favourites to sign the Argentine midfielder and may spend in excess of €70m for the 23-year-old, who joined Betis permanently for just €22m from Paris Saint-Germain in April.

Betis have also agreed to also sign Fekir’s younger brother Youssef, who they will then loan out to a second-tier club Cadiz.
