Ivan Rakitic wants long-term Barcelona stay

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has confirmed he wants to stay at the club for the remaining two years of his contract.

The Croatian international’s current deal at the Camp Nou runs through until the summer of 2021 although Barca signed midfielders Arturo Vidal and Arthur Melo last summer and have a deal to sign Frenkie De Jong from Ajax this summer.

The midfielder has continually been linked with a move away from the Blaugrana but he now appears set to stay.

“It's a situation that I'm used to since I'm here, last year the same thing happened to me,” Rakitic explained, in quotes cited by Marca.

“I talked to the club and the Coach and the idea is the same, and my idea is to continue with Barça, I'm open, but my idea is very clear and my intention is to continue here and continue enjoying because being here because I have more years left on my contract.

“Here you have to work and whoever performs the most is the one who plays, I will work hard so that the team can count on me, they know me and I want to give the best version of me and in the Coach makes the decision.

“It does not bother me to talk about my future, I have to understand that football in general works like that, in a way I am proud that other teams ask about me because it means that I am doing things right.”
