Arsenal ‘a step away’ from Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos

Arsenal are ‘a step away’ from completing the season-long loan signing of Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, according to Diario AS.

The report claims that the player’s preference is to join the Gunners ahead of North London rival Tottenham and Milan, who have also submitted offers.

It is claimed that Madrid’s asking price for the central midfielder stands at €50m although they are said to have informed Ceballos – who is on holiday until 22 July – that he can leave on loan.

The midfielder starred for Spain’s Under-21 side this summer in their successful European Championships tournament.

Ceballos joined Madrid from Betis for €16m in 2017 but has started just 17 times in La Liga and just twice in the Champions League and has often appeared to be a fringe figure.

The Spain international started and scored in March’s 3-2 victory over Huesca – his first home goal for the club – but was selected just once more in the 10 matches since.

Madrid have spent over €300m on five new signings this summer but so far have only sold Marcos Llorente and have a hugely bloated 36-man first-team squad.
