Christian Eriksen could stay at Tottenham for 2019-20 season

Christian Eriksen could remain at Tottenham this season, after Real Madrid cooled their interest in the midfielder.

Eriksen informed the Premier League side that he wanted to move on and pursue a new challenge away from North London, following their Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in June.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for the Danish international, however they have been put off by Tottneham's asking price of €70m, particularly as the former Ajax schemer only has a year left on his contract with Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Zinedine Zidane has since moved on to other targets, with Eriksen slipping down the pecking order, following the arrivals of Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic – as well as the club's continued pursuit of Paul Pogba.

This change of situation, according to reports in The Guardian this weekend, may lead to Eriksen reconciling with Tottenham ahead of the new campaign and leaving on a free transfer in 2020.
