Atletico Madrid to offer Saul Niguez new deal

Atletico Madrid are set to offer Saul Niguez a new contract, to ward off interest from Manchester United, according to reports in Diario AS.

The Spanish international has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Manchester City, prior to their eventual move for Rodri, however Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have retained an interest in the Spanish international.

Niguez, 24, signed a nine-year deal at the club back in 2017, including a €150m release clause, which United would be willing to pay, should Paul Pogba move to Real Madrid this summer.

However, Diego Simeone's are now set to offer the Elche-born play maker a wage increase to nullify interest from Old Trafford.

The club will increase Niguez's annual salary to €10.5m, making him the club's highest earner, following the exit of Antoine Griezmann and a pay rise for goal keeper Jan Oblak.

The new offer would not include an extension beyond his current deal, which expires in 2024, and his release clause would remain at €150m.
