Napoli request lower fee for Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez

Napoli have called on Real Madrid to lower their asking price for James Rodriguez.

The Serie A side are the front runners to sign the Colombian international, who is into the final year of his six-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, and has been told he can leave the club by manager Zinedine Zidane.

Bayern Munich opted not to take up their own purchase option on the former AS Monaco midfielder, following a two-year loan spell at the Bundesliga club.

However, despite Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti seeking a reunion with Rodrigez, who he signed for Real Madrid following the 2014 World Cup, club president Aurelio de Laurentiis has called for more negotiation.

"We are willing to make sacrifices to secure a deal for James, but Real Madrid must do more, he told Sky Italia.

"We do want to buy him, but we are not in any hurry.

"We have not given up hope on securing a deal, but Madrid must consider that it is better to sell him, or loan him, rather than have him unhappy at the club."

De Laurentiis also confirmed that no direct contact had yet been made over a new offer, but he did hint that Ancelotti had highlighted the 28-year old as his primary target this summer.
