Atletico Madrid will demand full payment over Antoine Griezmann deal

Atletico Madrid club president Enrique Cerezo has confirmed they club have not closed the door on Antoine Griezmann's move to FC Barcelona.

The reigning La Liga champions confirmed on July 12 that they had completed their long running transfer push for the French international, after paying his €120m release clause with Diego Simeone's side.

The Catalans also confirmed that Griezmann had signed a five-year contract, with a €800m release clause at the Camp Nou ahead of the 2019-20 La Liga season.

However, Atletico Madrid confirmed they would be seeking legal advice over allegations that Griezmann had agreed a deal with Ernesto Valverde's side back in March 2019, when his release clause was at €200m, and Cerezo is awaiting the club's next step.

"If Atletico Madrid have made this statement, it is because we have evidence of a deal, he told Spanish radio station RAC1.

"We will look into and demand the amount we consider to be necessary."

Griezmann confirmed his desire to leave the club in May 2019 - performing a dramatic u-turn from less than 12 months ago when he rejected a move to FC Barcelona, and Cerezo criticised the attitude of the former Real Sociedad striker.
