Atletico Madrid turn to PSG defender Thomas Meunier

Atletico Madrid are eyeing the possibility of signing Paris Saint-Germain full-back Thomas Meunier this summer, report Diario AS.

The Belgian international had been understudy to Dani Alves in the French capital but the Brazilian’s exit this summer may have offered him a reprieve ahead of next season.

Los Rojiblancos are hopeful of landing a right-back this summer following the exit of Juanfran Torres this summer and have been frustrated in their attempts to land Barcelona full-back Nelson Semedo.

“My desire is to stay in Paris, the leaders know my intentions and that I am open to stay and renew, but it is their decision, it is in their hands,” Meunier is cited as saying by the report.

However, the 27-year-old is now entering the final year of his contract in the French capital and this has led to suggestions that he will be sold this summer in order for the club to reinvest elsewhere in their side.

Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier is said to be another option for Atleti should they be frustrated in their attempts to land Meunier.
