Done deal: Real Madrid’s Luca Zidane loaned to Racing Santander

Real Madrid goalkeeper Luca Zidane has joined second tier side Racing Santander on a season-long loan deal, it has been confirmed.

The Cantabrian club were promoted to La Liga 123 this summer and have completed the signing of the goalkeeper, son of Madrid boss Zinedine.

The France youth international started in Madrid’s 3-2 league victory over Huesca at the end of March but had found first-team opportunities limited in the Spanish capital.

Luca was always likely to remain a fringe player at Los Blancos this season with Thibaut Courtois now established as the club’s number one with Keylor Navas and Andriy Lunin still on their books.

It is still hoped within Madrid that the goalkeeper could one day make the grade to become the club’s first choice shot-stopper and they see such a loan arrangement as ideal for his development.

He is the latest player to exit the club following moves for Raul de Tomas, Marcos Llorente, Theo Hernandez, Sergio Reguilon and Martin Odegaard.

Luca’s brother Enzo currently plays for Madrid-based Rayo Majadahonda, who were relegated from the Spanish second tier last season.
