Inter striker Mauro Icardi wanted by Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid remain ‘very attentive’ to the situation of Inter striker Mauro Icardi and are monitoring a transfer, report Diario AS.

The Argentine striker has fallen out with the Milanese giants and appears certain to depart this summer, with the club chasing a deal for Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.

Juventus and Napoli are among the clubs who have been linked with the hitman, whose quality is unquestioned but his off-field behaviour has previously been highlighted.

The 25-year-old is one of Europe’s elite goal scorers and netted 17 goals during the last campaign despite falling out of favour with the club’s hierarchy amid uncertainty surrounding his future.

The report claims that any such interest is directly linked to the future of Diego Costa, who could be sold this summer should a lucrative offer come in for the striker – who has struggled for form and fitness over the past 12 months – from the Chinese Super League.

The striker was stripped of the Nerazzurri captaincy earlier this year and did not featured in the first team for six weeks, before being restored to action in April.
