Real Madrid and Napoli in bidding war over James Rodriguez

Real Madrid are holding out for €42m in their negotiations with Napoli over the sale of James Rodriguez.

The Serie A side have emerged as favourites to sign the out of favour Colombian international, after Bayern Munich declined to take upo their purchase option on him earlier this summer.

There was reported interest in him from Premier League sides, however Napoli are the only club to formalise their interest in the former AS Monaco play maker, with Zinedine Zidane happy to offload him as part of a squad revamp.

Carlo Ancelotti, who brought him to the Santiago Bernabeu during his time in the Spanish capital, and managed him at Bayern is a huge admirer of Rodriguez and both sides want a deal to be concluded.

However, as it stands, Napoli are only willing to offer €35m, with Los Blancos determined to get more  for a player they spent €73m on five years ago according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.
